Hopefully not soon, turning 60 makes you think more about what's ahead. The canyon as many of said is unbelievable. The beauty is beyond what you see in photos or paintings. We fell in love with the canyon, and the many miraculous sites of Az: Montezuma's castle and Tuzigoot ruins, a 50,000 yr old meteor crater, gorgeous red rocks of Sedona and of course my favorite the lovely and quaint town of Jerome. All within no more than an hr from the canyon. Jerome is the largest ghost town in the US. If you like history you will love this town. Many of the buildings have remained the same, maybe some remodeling in a handful of businesses. For the most part the structures are very similar to the roaring copper mining days of the 1800's and the hilly streets m the uniqueness of Jerome's history. While wondering around the two main streets I surprisingly fell upon the most wonderful knitting shop called 'Knit One Bead One' in a GHOST TOWN! I understand they have two yarn shops and the population is only 300! Must be an awful lot of knitting tourists.... If you are traveling this area, Jerome is a must. It is seldom mentioned in the commercialized pamphlets of Sedona but it is the best kept secret for tourists to see. Only the locals at the Montezuma's castle told me about Jerome. In the spring we will be going there again to see the Petrified Forests and do maybe even a jeep ride to the bottom of the canyon for more wonderful shots of one of the most beautiful and amazing sites in the world. Once to the canyon, you'll find that English is less spoken: you'll hear many languages of folks that come from all around the world. Baudelaire toe up socks by Cookie a went on the trip too, never traveling without a portable sock project!Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-90134148721341244222008-05-18T13:00:00.000-07:002008-05-18T13:25:28.881-07:00We Made it Through April!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/SDCNfjWsUFI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/yaDTZrkdv54/s320/IMG_0879.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201813142818803794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/SDCNfzWsUGI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/4-x8_RKkcEs/s320/IMG_1570.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201813147113771106" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/SDCMKDWsUDI/AAAAAAAAAJk/_sEFo7nME8c/s320/P1010027.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201811673939988530" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/SDCMKTWsUEI/AAAAAAAAAJs/pq8kb8nOXuo/s320/IMG_1319.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201811678234955842" />
Beginning of April we started redoing our very old and outdated kitchen ('nightmare from the 70's). Complete with gold and rust formica counters and cheapy masonite cabinets and linoleum that curled around the edges of the floor and had more cuts and dents than my son's first inherited truck from us. Embarking this adventure was absolutely crazy with my stepson's destination wedding April 26. Piles of kitchen food,cookbooks never used cookware and who knows what filled the living room ceiling high. Dust became an everyday occurrence. Sheets covered everything in site. April always keeps us busy too when both of us have our BD and wedding anniversary April 12. Hubby turned 60 and would like to save a special day for him after all the commotion is done and the kitchen is finished. Somehow I managed to find my knitting and made a very easy wedding garter from the ravelry site. Free pattern too. The wedding was picture perfect, white clean sandy beaches, and an endless blue waters from the gulf. A beautiful canopy with white sheer fabric and hung with tropical foilage surrounded the lovely couple. So much in love, the two seemed to be the only ones on the beach as they held each other during the ceremony.
Living thru the remodeling, our son's wedding, and getting all my men there (boys and hubby) made it definitely the most memorable April for our family.Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-24837923507162435522008-04-07T11:13:00.000-07:002008-04-07T11:25:22.280-07:00A Babe and April the Llama Relax by the Pacifica Beach<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/R_pm-6pMCBI/AAAAAAAAAII/J4CfULQUBOI/s320/Pacifica+Our+Home+(April%27s).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186571151950481426" />
Although my house is literally upside down with the tearing out of my kitchen and getting ready for my son's wedding in Florida I knew I had to create the orange haired babe for a special young girl. I decided to try it on a smaller version for an 18" doll on a cropped cardigan. The pattern was from Eileen Adler's book 'Matching Knits for Girls & Dolls'. The sleeves called for a 3" length with more simpler square shape. The short row shaping allows the sleeves to drape more naturally with the curved sleeve caps.Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-39114012586384819432007-06-16T09:34:00.001-07:002007-06-16T09:34:31.884-07:00Graduating! Any theme my boys loved, I made a punch embroidery to add to their shirt. Every character was punched and outlined to recreate their favorite comic hero or interest... Of course their super heroes had muscles. Raphael is three dimentional from head to toe. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, dinosaurs, bubble gum machine, baseball blue jay logo & Giants and countless more boy stuff! Last but not least is the logo for my son's alternative rock band Dexter Danger. I applied the DD emblem to my jean jacket for their last show 10/06. The guys of the band and kids loved it. Their last show was a hit at the Bottom of the Hill in SF, packed from wall to wall. One of the photos is of my younger son (as a baby in Mickey Mouse shirt) and their show. The knitted furry like scarves are the 'brainless' projects you need when waiting in doctor or dentists offices or to pick up kids while waiting in the car. Everyone needs a simple project that doesn't require counting. Never enough of 'purple'! Starting with a beaded scarf pattern, I then altered it to a small bag that attaches to a belt or with a strap for more dress up look. Lining is a lavender satin fabric with a snap enclosure and velcro sewn on the side to remove the strap to use as a fanny pack (more of hands free design). The brilliant deep purple beads are from Japan. This was a must for the very rare Prince concert at the Orpheum Theatre in SF.Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-89969636632319816262007-05-17T15:25:00.000-07:002007-05-17T15:42:16.515-07:00More Hearts and Cabling...<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkzYq4-kf7I/AAAAAAAAADQ/Us9WCqqG9bA/s320/P1010104.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5065661912245895090" />
Teddy (otherwise Theodora) is shown with pink aran celtic sweater with cabled hearts. Other than the occassional dizziness from going around and around the bag stitching cabling and seed stitch patterns on the sides, it is an intrigueing design and fun to make. I purchased the pattern at the Stitches West in San Jose, Ca. The original pattern was difficult to follow I found. As the pattern indicated, I did my own design for the front & side panels. I love heart cabled patterns and incorporated it with adjacent cabling designs from the Knitted Aran Celtic book. The purse is lined with stockinette stitches and a pocket was added to keep my on the go knitting trinkets. The firmness of the bag is created by cutting and sewing plastic canvas pieces. For even more stiffness I overlayed the canvas with thin cardboard. Absolutely, one of the most fun & unique knitted bags to make!Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-46891502613391877492007-05-12T13:27:00.000-07:002007-05-12T13:37:29.039-07:00Wild and Sultry!!!!!!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkYlc1x7ejI/AAAAAAAAACk/tyvC9gJ_fDk/s320/P1010097.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5063776008427764274" />
Sally the Seductress, I have named her. Her beginnings are from the book "Knitted Babes", the pattern was altered so that she could actually sit upright without falling over her face. She has a sultry pose and is waiting until any blue skies appear on this typical overcast day in Pacifica to contemplate on what she has on her agenda today....Needle felted fingernails were added to her hands as well as white sandals that are secured by velcro to her tiny feet. I had a fifty-fifty chance of getting first place... The doll was rescued from the Goodwill (Lisi doll), cleaned up, haired combed and the rest is history. The bodice of the dress is done with an intarsia pattern, from an 18" doll pattern. Randee & Jordan are my 'girls!' or atleast while they're at the fair with me. They enjoy the same interests of beading, knitting, and dolls.Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-54066608191614719312007-05-10T10:38:00.000-07:002007-05-10T10:43:22.421-07:00Knitting projects: Short but Sweet...<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkNZtlx7ehI/AAAAAAAAACU/d5gOcMgqQxM/s320/P8161004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062989045865085458" />
Projects I attempt must be short but interesting enough to keep me from falling asleep. Stockinette long periods surely will act the same as reading a book before you go to bed. I enjoy cabling with patterns of design, such as hearts or symbols. The breast cancer scarf has three sampler patterns: a heart (love), anchor (hope), and breast cancer sign (faith). Filler patterns of choice are the squares between the symbols. I showed the scarf to my auntie who loved it. She had just lost her husband to cancer. The scarf was hers!Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-1658222914487017102007-05-09T18:34:00.000-07:002007-05-09T18:53:06.830-07:00More sites of Pacifica<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkJ67Vx7eXI/AAAAAAAAAA0/0fo_wtlt-LE/s320/IMG_0258.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062744090995292530" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkJ671x7eYI/AAAAAAAAAA8/Ltr6--yq5c0/s320/IMG_0270.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062744099585227138" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkJ68Vx7eZI/AAAAAAAAABE/tFoSmrKag84/s320/IMG_0277.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062744108175161746" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkJ681x7eaI/AAAAAAAAABM/rHQki6iE0gI/s320/P1010172.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062744116765096354" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkJ69Vx7ebI/AAAAAAAAABU/8pf_GjYjRZE/s320/P1010170.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062744125355030962" />
I am happy to be even able to post a 'blog'. Yesterday, I asked my son what it was...Slow but learning more about using the net. Believe it or not, these hidden picturesque treasures are only 10 minutes from the bay area. I love my hometown, except for the occassionaly mildew in our home. Otherwise it is a perfect place to live in and have a family. I called a friend in Belmont which is only 20 min away and she couldn't believe those adorable creatures lived in the small town Pacifica. These llama like cuties grace a small hillside walking distance from the beach. If its a blue sky day, nothing beats the Pacifica ocean view and local furry (alpaca?) friends. Any comments if anyone knows exactly what type of animals they are I would appreciate it.
Most of my free time I am shopping, knitting, gardening, or photographing the nearby picturesque natural treasures.Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260656763278369195.post-13468034639718585942007-05-09T13:49:00.000-07:002007-05-09T18:03:55.736-07:00Knitting with Alpaca????<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkI1Flx7eTI/AAAAAAAAAAU/RMfFr7ASdnY/s320/P1010071.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062667301275007282" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_enpV5xGTIoo/RkI0xFx7eSI/AAAAAAAAAAM/hrVGrXmm1uI/s320/IMG_0256.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5062666949087688994" />Georgia P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16585962333618765296noreply@blogger.com0
